Omnilux phototherapy – the most pleasant way to better skin

We’re proud to announce that we were the first cosmetic medical practice in the Eastern Suburbs to take delivery of an OMNILUX continuous 633nm PhotoRejuvenation unit.

The Holy Grail of cosmetic medicine has always been to find a way to bring about a smoothing and firming of facial skin with perfect comfort and no risk; and it’s exciting to be seeking out and offering to our patients treatments that take us closer and closer to this ideal.

What does it do?

The OMNILUX unit applies a continuous bright light therapy of 633nm, in the orange-red part of the visible spectrum, to the whole of your face. With your eyes protected, the bright pure light is applied for 20 minutes per session, and is felt as a warm glow on the face, warm as sunbathing.

As you rest under the warm light, the 633nm photons penetrate deep into the dermis and subdermal layers of the skin. There, photons of this specific wavelength initiate signals that stimulate your skin’s defence and repair mechanisms without causing any damage. As treatments progress, collagen is laid down and organised, with the result that skin becomes smoother and tighter.

Connoisseurs of cosmetic medical treatments will recognise something of this process. It is a fact that the majority of cosmetic medical treatments directed at skin aim to initiate a thickening of collagen by stimulating fibroblastic activity, and in that sense Omnilux treatments are no different. However, most cosmetic treatments achieve fibroblastic stimulation by the application of a measured and controlled process of physical or chemical damage, to which the skin responds by repairing and strengthening itself in a predictable manner. Laser and IPL treatments, dermabrasion and microdermabrasion, chemical peels, etc, all work in a similar manner in this sense. That’s not to say we at Peach don’t use these methods and won’t continue to use them. We certainly will, every day, whenever these treatments represent the very best way of dealing with the particular problem a patient asks us to solve for them. But we now have the option of Omnilux.

Omnilux doesn’t cause any damage but rather tricks the skin into thinking that damage has occurred, thus causing the initiation of repair mechanisms even though there’s nothing new to repair. The skin’s own restorative effort is thus applied to the wrinkles themselves.

Why would this be the case? Why would the body respond to 633nm light in this manner?

For practical purposes the only light source Earth’s creatures have been exposed to over the eons has been sunlight. Sunlight, as we know, includes harmful UVA and UVB rays along with the benign visible light by which we see. So, it’s reasonable to conjecture that since the dawn of time our bodies have rightly considered that whenever visible light, including 633nm light, is about, dangerous UV rays are about as well. And so it seems that the body perceives 633nm light as being somewhat surrogate for sunlight exposure in general, and initiates repair on exposure to 633nm light on its assumption that UV damage will have occurred at the same time, requiring repair. This means that with 633nm light we can trick the skin into repairing itself, without causing any of the damage that other restorative skin treatments rely on for effect.

How fast does it work?

Like all gentle and safe skin treatments, OMNILUX won’t change your skin overnight. It took countless hours of sun exposure for your skin to get the way it is: a single 20 minute session of 633nm light won’t undo the months and years of exposure that gave rise to the damage. However, a series of ten or more treatments lead to noticeable improvements in the majority of recipients; all without any discomfort and without any risk.

Treatments are ideally performed three times per week, so a course runs for three or four or more weeks. However, once the collagen stimulation process is set in motion, it will take months for the full effects to be seen.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Of course! Collagen formation is a multi-stepped process with many stimulating factors involved. The more steps we augment and the more factors we initiate the better the response will be (all other things being equal). So, for best results you should make sure you consume plenty of water along with a high intake of natural antioxidants, preferably in a natural food supplement, along with omega 3 fatty acids.

Skin care should involve high doses of strong topical vitamins, especially vit C and vit A. If wrinkle injections to relax muscles are appropriate, they should be employed to relax the skin as its collagen is renewed. Omnilux treatments will augment the effect of, and will be augmented by the effect of, other treatments such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels and IPL treatments. Those on a budget will immediately wonder whether, for a given problem, they should continue solely with their current treatment regime or reallocate some of that expenditure towards OMNILUX. This is a curly question that can only be answered in consultation with our cosmetic physician Dr John Mahony. However, Omnilux treatments are amongst the least expensive we offer, and will enhance the effect of any of our other treatments, so it becomes very difficult to advise anyone not to have the treatment.

What prices are we talking about then?

We’ll do a standard Omnilux treatment for just $89 in a 30 minute appointment. That is already boldly below the distributor’s recommendation of $100, and proves we want as many patients as possible to enjoy the benefits of this treatment. A standard treatment is 20 minutes in duration, but we book 30 minutes for your appointment. Why? Because we know there’s an inevitable amount of time spent in receiving you to the practice, reviewing any previous treatment, debriefing after the treatment, settling the fees, re-booking the next treatment, etc, etc, so we need to allow time for all that.

HOWEVER, if you bring two friends to a treatment time booked for an hour, which is the time we would allocate for two regular consecutive appointments, we will agree to three of you having treatment in that time, so long as we get all three of you treated in the hour, and so long as you book and pay (2 x $89 = $178) at least three days in advance. That works out at under $60 per treatment per person, and is amazing value! And, if one of your friends doesn’t turn up, $89 each for you and your other friend is still great value.

Can it be done for even less?

At Peach, as at all cosmetic medical practices, the bane of our lives is the administration of appointments. So, if you and your two friends help us make our lives easier by booking and paying for ten hour-long sessions in advance, we will let you have twelve.
That works out at just $49.44 per treatment! That’s under half the recommended treatment fee!

Can I book and pay for ten treatments and get twelve just for myself?

Of course. Pay 10 x $89 = $890 and get twelve treatments. That works out at $74.17 per treatment, and is great value
