Standard breast reduction surgery leaves long and complex scars.
So, for some, breast reduction by liposuction is a better approach.
Big breasts can be a big pain. Bra straps too tight, cutting into skin. Interference with sporting activities. Can’t easily find nice clothes that fit. Not to mention just looking unusual.
Essentially, excessive breast volume arises from either too much glandular breast tissue, too much breast fat, or both.
Those with too much glandular breast tissue are generally best served by undertaking formal breast reduction surgery if they want a substantial reduction and want to change their breast shape but don’t mind the scarring that occurs with this surgery. On the other hand, those with a lot of glandular breast tissue will sometimes still have some breast fat tissue that can be removed by liposuction alone. Modest reduction in breast volume may follow liposuction in such cases.
Those with too much breast fat will generally get a more substantial volume reduction from breast liposuction, the average reduction being 40% of breast volume. Such patients are typically, but not always, generally overweight at least to some degree. Others may not be overweight, but with age may have seen their previously full glandular breasts develop a less glandular and more fatty structure. Both are suitable for breast liposuction.
In summary, if you are young and slim but with big breasts requiring reduction, and you can live with the scars that follow, you need formal surgery.
If you are a bit older, and carrying some extra weight, you may find you can get the reduction you need via liposuction, and you’ll avoid scarring, loss of nipple sensation, etc
